Gillian & Timothy’s Valentin Imperial Maya Wedding
There is something all of our WeddingDayStory couples have in common, they love to travel! That’s why it’s not a surprise when they choose a destination wedding, specially a Valentin Imperial Maya wedding (more). Gillian & Timothy’s story begins with a guy walking into a bar, a beautiful surprise proposal and a gorgeous beach wedding.
“Tim and I both grew up in Connecticut. A guy walks into a bar… 🙂
Tim and I met on a random summer night in Stamford, Connecticut. He walked into a bar singing and rocking out to Guns N’ Roses. He looked up and I was smiling at him. Without hesitating, he came over and asked to buy me a drink. After a Patron on the rocks with a splash of lime, he asked me to dinner and we’ve been together ever since.”
Surprise Engagement Party
“In the fall of 2013 Tim truly surprised me with a Fort Tryon Park proposal overlooking the Hudson River at sunset. After a romantic dinner at The Carriage House restaurant, he and my best friend surprised me again with an engagement party to celebrate with friends and family. Everyone kept the event a secret for over two weeks. I had no idea!”
An Adventure In The Sun
“Tim and I both share a passion for travel and we view our life and time together as an adventure. A destination wedding was always in the cards. Our first trip to the Valentin Imperial Maya was to celebrate our first year together. We returned again right after Tim proposed for an engagement-moon. It is a special and significant place for us throughout our relationship and we wanted to share it with our closest friends and family.
A destination wedding provided us the opportunity to spend real quality time with our guests. It was an epic fun-filled vacation with all of our favorite people, and there were many fun and memorable moments. The best part of the day was when Tim and I saw each other for the first time as I walked down the aisle — that was truly incredible. It’s a lifetime moment and a memory we’ll both cherish forever.”
The Most Important People
“We had a small destination wedding. Every one of the forty people who made the long journey to celebrate with us on our special day are cherished and have touched us. All of those who attended the wedding are the most important people in our lives. Including those who were there in spirit!”
An Amazing First Dance
“We loved every minute of the wedding, especially the parts that were planned to surprise our guests and allowed our personalities to shine through. One of the best examples, and a most memorable moment, was our first dance. We took private lessons and worked for months with a choreographer to create a very special first dance to Pitbull’s, “Give me Everything Tonight”. Complete with a fireworks display at the last dramatic dip to really finish it all off. The hard work paid off! Our guests loved it and it’s one of our very favorite pictures!”
Valentin Imperial Maya wedding
“All of the wedding details (cake, dj, flowers) were provided by the incredibly talented Romances team at the Valentin Imperial Maya. They accommodated all of our unique requests, even finding live drummers to sync with our DJ.”
Our Valentin Imperial Maya wedding by WeddingDayStory
“By far, our favorite part of working with WeddingDayStory was meeting and having the opportunity to work with our super talented photographer. He really listened to exactly what we wanted and made sure to recreate images from the inspirations we passed. He always captured the perfect moment. They love their job and their passion shows in their work!
Having the opportunity to meet with him live as needed at the resort was very helpful. And our wedding album is everything. It came so fast! And all of the pictures were ready when we returned from our vacation. We cannot say enough positive things about the entire process.
Our favorite is the first dance photo. Second favorite photo is a tie between the ones at the reception where we are lit from behind and looking at each other – and the one where Tim is holding me on the beach in front of the water and we’re kissing!”
Our Wedding Planner
“Faviola helped us through every decision, request, and plan we made. We worked on our Valentin Imperial Maya wedding for 2.5 years – and at every moment she was patient, kind, and extremely helpful with all aspects of the process. The entire team at the Valentin were truly excited for our wedding and they worked together to help our dream come true. Their efforts and support meant everything to us. We hugged the team good bye the day we left and knew we’d truly miss them!”
Epic, Memorable, Fun
“The only difficulty was how sad we were when it was over! Enjoy the planning process as best you can by staying true to what you and your fiance want above all. If the both of you are happy, everyone is happy becuase your energy will shine.
Remember to take a moment, step back and take it all in.”
All I Want Is You
“My high school friends sang at the reception, Clean Bandit’s “Rather Be” and Tim’s groomsmen accompanied them on guitar. It was a very special part of the reception that was enjoyed by all of our guests and a memory we’ll cherish forever. We chose the song again (the radio version) to close the party. Tim and wedding party walked down the isle to a piano version of Tim’s favorite song by U2, “All I Want is You”. I walked to Adele’s version of Bob Dylan’s, “Make you Feel My Love”, a song I (try to) sing to Tim to make him smile.
And then of course, there was our special Pitbull first dance 🙂 And our reception entrance to “White Wedding” by Billy Idol. As ours was a “White Wedding”. This detail was also included on our customized sunglass favors. It really was a ‘Nice day for a white wedding’.”
“Our best couple friends (Madeline & Shawn) were our officiants and we all wrote the script together. Also, Tim and I wrote our own vows. I think this gave the ceremony a very personalized feeling. Our flowers, catering, DJ, hair and make up were all handled by the Valentin Imperial Maya wedding team. My very good friend, Gail Travis, custom made my veil.”
