Sarena & Lawrence’s Valentin Imperial Maya Wedding

Sarena and Lawrence tied the knot with a gorgeous Valentin Imperial Maya Wedding ceremony on May 23rd, 2015.

They were both born and raised in Tennessee. Lawrence grew up in Munford (near Memphis), and Sarena in Smithville, near Nashville. Their parents made sure they both grew up with strong values, as their families prioritized kindness, hard work and love. They were raised to have open minds, and Sarena shared with us that this helped her be more open to the idea of having a destination wedding.

They met back in 2011 at The University of Tennessee in Knoxville. Both of them were members of the band, and had many mutual friends and mutual interests. It wasn’t long before they started dating, became inseparable, and fell in love.

On Christmas Eve of 2013, Lawrence surprised Sarena saying that he was taking her for dinner at a nice restaurant and to see the Christmas lights in Nashville. She just assumed this was his Christmas present and got really excited about the date. They had the best time, and ended up at the Opryland Hotel, which has beautiful Christmas decorations lights. The next thing she knew, they were standing under a beautifully lit gazebo and Lawrence got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. She -of course- said yes, with happy tears running down her face! He had some of their friends take pictures of the event, which made it even more special.

Sarena was interested in having a destination wedding because she had vacationed in several all inclusive resorts (including the Valentin Imperial Maya), and knew how beautiful and amazing they are. She mentioned the idea to Lawrence, and though he wasn’t opposed to it, he really had no idea what to expect for their wedding, because he had never been to an all inclusive resort like the Valentin Maya before. Because of this, they decided to take a trip to the Valentin Imperial Maya back in May of 2014, so that that he could see it and make the decision of having a destination wedding there, together. There, they met with their wedding planner Faviola (who is amazing by the way) and saw all the possible venues. Their trip was amazing, so they set the date of their wedding shortly after they returned home.

Their Valentin Imperial Maya Wedding was incredibly romantic. They had their friends and family arrive several days before the wedding, and everyone left within a couple of days after. What they loved best about their destination wedding at the Valentin was that they could spend a lot of time with each other and with their closest family and friends, all while everyone was relaxed and on vacation. Having a destination wedding took all the stress out of the day of the ceremony. Sarena was able to plan the details with Faviola throughout the previous year over email, which was very comfortable and easy. She didn’t even need to contact any vendors outside the hotel except for WeddingDayStory! Everything else came with their wedding package, which on top of it all, was very reasonably priced. They didn’t have to worry with setting anything up the day of, or cleaning anything up that night or the next day. They had lots of fun at their reception celebrating their love with their friends and family! On top of that, the next morning everyone woke up in paradise… and the party didn’t even have to be over! They stayed for an extra week and had the best honeymoon anyone could ask for! —By the way: Did you check out our Riviera Maya Honeymoon Activities guide yet?

The couple’s closest family and friends travelled a long way to share this moment in the sun with them. Sarena’s parents Annette and Randy, her sister Meghan and her grandmother Libby made sure not to miss such important occasion. Lawrence’s parents Charlotte and Randy and his sister and brother in law Candace and Josh, as well as his grandmother Doris also attended, among many other friends and family members. Lawrence’s aunt Crystal was even able to perform the wedding ceremony!

When asked about their destination wedding photography, this is what they had to say:

We loved everything about our experience with WeddingDayStory. They worked with us to give us the right package, tailored for our needs. I loved our photographers, and thought they did an amazing job with our pictures. It was also nice that we had access to an online portal to see our pictures.

Its hard to pick a favorite photo, but I think our favorites are the ones we took on the beach. They are just stunning. I really like the picture of our wedding party jumping as we are kissing in the middle. Our friends back home loved this one. I was also very impressed with all the photos taken while we were getting ready, as this allowed our friend sand family at home to feel like they got to see more of what the day was like. Again, we had a great experience and loved having a destination wedding. It was fun, memorable, and low stress for us and all of our guests. I would recommend it to anyone!
