Riviera Maya Beach Wedding | Lori & Alia
At the Wedding Day Story family, the times when we feel a deep sense of fulfillment are many… but ceremonies like Lori & Alia’s same sex Riviera Maya beach wedding at the Valentin Imperial Maya have an extra special touch that makes them stand out. After each wedding, photographers and coordinators (or Wedding Day Specialists, as us here in the marketing department like to call them) share their comments and highlights from the wedding with us. Lori & Alia’s ceremony was full of what I call “goose – bump moments”, and you could just see the light in our photographer’s eyes as he talked about this couple. We love being part of natural celebrations of love such as this same sex Playa del Carmen Beach Wedding, where you could tell a barefoot laid back ceremony, was just the right choice for the couple.
A bit of background…
Lori grew up in Bensalem and Alia in Havertown. Both towns in Pennsylvania, about 30 minutes apart. They were both taught to marry a partner, a best friend. Laughter and honesty were, for them, the key values to a successful marriage. They met through a mutual friend, who Lori knew since she was 5 and Alia had met separately around 15 years prior. They were introduced and hit it right off, but didn’t start dating for about a year.
This is their Wedding Day Story, as told by Lori:
We flew out to Oregon and rented a car. We drove from Seattle and down the Oregon coast stopping at beaches, state parks and towns along the way. We stopped at a beach at sunset to watch and Alia surprised me with the ring as the sun set. It was picturesque and beautiful and I was completely surprised. She later told me she had the ring for four days just waiting for the right moment. We will never forget how happy and carefree the trip was and the proposal was a highlight of a lifetime.
Why did you choose a destination wedding? What was your favorite part of the day?
We are both travelers. It’s a big part of our life. Our first official date Alia was in New Mexico touring as a musician and I flew out to meet her. We thought it fit to bring that together and do a destination wedding. We also wanted to wed barefoot on a beach so Mexico was chosen and 22 of our friends and family joined us. It was perfect.
Everyone that came were among our closest friends and family. Friends we’ve known for decades and family on both sides. Our best friend Robin performed the wedding ceremony and she is who introduced us so it was that much more special. Lori’s Mom is 75 and afraid of flying. She made the trip and it was so wonderful to have her standing with and her constant support. My sisters came and Alia’s cousin Dullene. Having the new family come together and have not only a wedding day but a vacation brought us all closer together. All 24 of us are now forever family.
Was there a particularly memorable moment of the wedding day that you would like to mention?
Alia sang our favorite song to me at the wedding. She looked so beautiful and it was a very special moment. Everyone was so fixed on it, even the staff! It was unique and I was transfixed. The lighting, bubbles, and fireworks made the reception very unique and memorable. Dancing in the open air under the stars… magical! The ceremony was just so perfect as well, and everything about it: the weather, the set up, the music and our wedding day story photo session on the beach. All of it exceeded our dreams. Oh and I loved my dress… It had a Spanish flair and Spain has been our favorite trip together so far. The photos capture it beautifully. Our close ups really show the detail and makeup, as well. Our relaxed feel was captured in the images, along with the elegance. You can see the love in our eyes and I really like that because we were beyond happy and overwhelmed by the day in a good way. Seeing that reflected in the photos takes us right back to that feeling.
What aspect of having your images done by WeddingDayStory did you like the most?
Having a private viewing gallery link is great! We are still deciding our photo selection but we love canvases and it is great to be able to order one online, simply and easily, right from our gallery. We plan to display some on our walls.
What is your favorite wedding day story photo from you Riviera Maya beach wedding?
Tough one. But there is a close up on the wedding day where we are face to face and black and white. You see the love in our eyes and its a head shot. And one at cocktail hour where sun is setting and lori’s red hair is flowy. The beach swings. The group beach shot where we are jumping. Us posing with the guitar. There are so many.
Is there any other vendor that you would like to mention?
The DJ was great but I can’t remember his name right now… They brought lights and bubbles and the display was above expectations and songs flowed great. The Valentin Imperial location, service and food was exceptional. Faviola was our wedding coordinator and she was fantastic throughout the process, and especially the day of the wedding. She was always by our side and made sure everything was perfect.
Thank you, Lori & Alia, for sharing this very special Riviera Maya beach wedding moment with us. The Wedding Day Story family wishes you a life full of happiness!
