Valentin Imperial Maya Wedding | Amy & Adam
A destination wedding is usually the first choice for many couples, but for Amy & Adam it wasn’t. They went with it, however, because it was the most practical thing to do. And, as it turns out, they had a gorgeous Valentin Imperial Maya wedding that was hard to beat by any other. Both of them fell in love with their “second choice” in the end – Or, as we like to call it, they were hopeless victims of “The Riviera Maya Effect”.
“I grew up in Hallowell, ME my whole life before moving to southern Maine after college. Adam grew up in Revere, MA and moved to Lewiston, ME in high school. Both sets of our parents are so incredibly in love and patient. This year will mark 37 years of marriage for my parents, which is truly inspiring. Our parents have taught us the true meaning of love and how to build a life and family embodying such love.”
Bar Hop, Portland Style
“Adam and I met back in the summer of 2010 thru mutual friends (one of them being my bridesmaid, Erica) one night when a group of us went out to bar hop around Portland, ME. My friend Erica kept pushing me to talk to him, so I walked over and he said, “Hey you were the cute girl who sat in front of me in Finance class at Maine ” I totally had no clue who he was… BUT, I soon would. He was super shy and sweet – unlike most guys I had dated – so I was instantly drawn to him. We spent hours and hours talking and by the end of the night, he asked me on a date. Adam and I had our first date at Yosaku on the patio. The weather was unbelievably hot and the food was mediocre, but to this day, it is my favorite date. We went on one or two dates but ultimately decided to stay friends as he got a promotion to move to Virginia for work. We stayed friends for three years before realizing the greatest thing was right in front of us. After years of undeniable chemistry, we committed to making long-distance work. Little did we know what was in store. Less than a year later, we both got our first place together in downtown Toronto!
First Valentine’s Day Together Or How To Propose
“Adam proposed to me in Cambridge, MA the night before Valentine’s Day. It was a special weekend because, since we always dated long distance, it was the first time spending Valentine’s Day together! He surprised me with a trip to Boston, and I thought that was my gift! We had a very late flight, and by the time we checked into our hotel I was exhausted. What is important to note is that the hotel we stayed in,
Hyatt Cambridge, was where Adam’s father worked and where his parents were married. It held a special place in his heart, which made the weekend even more magical. As soon as we walked in, the room was decked out and I just assumed it was for Valentine’s Day. He whisked me to the window over seeing the river, and that’s when he proposed. It was beyond perfect and to this day, the most memorable and special moment of my life.”
Over The Moon Happy
“We chose to have a destination wedding purely for the lower cost and simpler planning. Ideally, I would have loved to have had a New England wedding. All our family is in either Maine or Massachusetts, and we would have had a much larger turnout. However, with the current Canadian dollar exchange rate and us being in Toronto, it was just too difficult. In the end, I am glad we chose destination. Our Valentin Imperial Maya wedding was fun and stress-free to choose the details of the wedding, and lucky for us, we were able to stay at the resort last summer and know how breathtakingly gorgeous it is! We were so excited.
Also, I think I am happy with a small intimate Valentin Imperial Maya wedding. You learn a lot about friends and family, that is for sure.
Our wedding party: Rebecca Blais (MOH), Valerie Lessard, Erica Lizotte, Joseph Lewicki (BM), and Matthew Lewicki.
Our immediate family: Anthony & Pamela St. Peter (my parents), Diana Lewicki (Adam’s mom), Benjamin St. Peter (my brother), Joe & Matt Lewicki (Adam’s brothers mentioned above). Also, my dear friend, Laura Soule, who is performing our ceremony. We are just so honored and over-the-moon happy we had them be a part of our day. Not all of our closest friends and family were able/willing to make it, so having these core people by our side means everything. We don’t take it for granted.”
Simple & Classic Valentin Imperial Maya wedding
“Ah! My dress is everything, haha! It’s a Katie May Lanai, and it’s the most stunning garment I have ever seen. Our cake topper was specially made by a
high-end shop and they skillfully crafted the most amazing topper including our fur baby, Harley (a Maltese Shit-zu). The place cards were fun- tequila shots with the cards on toothpicks thru the lime. Getting the party started! Also the guest book is a fun ide too I think. Rather than lug a book or frame back, I bought a bunch of Mexican postcards for people to write their well wishes on, and a little white mini suitcase for them to put them in. Simple & classic.
“I hand-made the menus, the place-cards, the signs for the bride & groom’s chairs, and the escort cards. I think that’s about it! We didn’t want to have too much to travel with. I should mention the garter I wore was my mother’s, so that was special (my something borrowed/old/blue).”
